Rock the Lunch Box with Healthy Lunch Ideas

#spon: I’m required to disclose a relationship between my blog and Annie’s Homegrown. This could include Annie’s providing me w/ content, product, access or other forms of payment.

Rock the Lunchbox with these healthy and fun choices. #rockthelunchbox #spon Healthy lunch ideas can be daunting.  It seems so much easier to just grab something on the go or something that’s quick but that’s not what’s best for kids {or adults}.

It’s almost back to school time for us ~ the boys are homeschooled and I always let them start after Labor Day {which we all like!}.  Even though I don’t have to pack them lunches I sometimes do since when lunchtime comes it’s easy for them to grab their lunch, enjoy it and then get back to school. It’s also easier for me that way since I work from home and the downtime at lunch gives me the chance to get some work done.

I wanted to get an idea of what my youngest son’s idea of the perfect lunch would be and asked him to draw his lunch on paper.

He drew this picture with hot sauce {his favorite condiment which I don’t let him eat as often as he would like}, pizza, apple sauce, pickles and Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies.  I asked how we could make his choices a bit healthier and we came up with several options to tweak things a bit and add some more nutrition to his lunch.

Thankfully, he really likes fresh fruit and veggies and those are easy to add to any lunch.

#rockthelunchbox #cheese #cookiecutter He also likes cheese and just to add a fun touch to his lunch I like to use cookie cutters to make shapes in the cheese and then add to salads or sandwiches. #lunchbox #howtowriteonabanana #lovenote

When I was in grade school and carried a lunch from home my Mom almost always put a note in my lunchbox and reading those was my favorite part of the day.  I wish I had saved some of them.  Since my boys are only about 20 feet away from me when they eat their lunch a note might seem a little silly but making a note on a banana, well, that’s another story.  This is so easy to do.  Just take a toothpick and write lightly in the peel of the banana.  In no time, the area you marked will turn burn and leave a mark.  Isn’t that cute?

Lunch has to include a delicious and nutritious drink and Honest Kids Organic Juice is a great choice and for crunchy appeal….Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies are our hands down favorite.

Gluten free sandwich made with Rudi's bread.

We go through three loaves of Rudi’s Gluten Free bread a week~ we really like our carbs čśë  My favorite way to serve it is with turkey and cheese and then pop it onto a panini maker.

Here’s our gluten free sandwich option with the banana love note and my attempt at a heart-shaped hard boiled egg….I need to try this again….it’s not quite what a heart should look like.

I don’t buy GMOs at all, including animal products (we buy organic to avoid animals that are fed GMOs). I prep lots of veggies so they are ready for their lunch, carrots, jicama, cilantro, celery, snap peas and such

I try and offer a few in season veggies to add to lunch boxes. They try them at school more than if I serve them at home.
