How to Take Any Wall from Drab to Fab

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of FrogTape Brand Painter’s Tape for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

My house was built in the 1970′s and other than a few upgrades I am dealing with the house ‘as-is’.  Painting has been something we have undertaken but up to this point the painting has been solid and safe colors.  In my living room {yes, you may gasp now}, I have a wall that is paneling and we have painted over it but it’s pretty darn drab.

How to Take Any Wall from Drab to Fab

You can see the wall from the front door so unless I bring you into the house through the garage and never invite you upstairs that wall is staring you.  I had never thought much about what to do with it other than taking a sledge hammer to it but I had the chance to try out FrogTape® Shape Tape™ to spruce it up.  As this is my main wall so to speak I wanted to be sure that I used a product that wasn’t going to leave me with a mess.  This is where FrogTape®  comes in.  It is the ONLY painter’s tape treated with PaintBlock® Technology.  What does this mean for you? PaintBlock® is a super-absorbent polymer which reacts with latex paint and instantly gels to form a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape, preventing paint bleed.

How I Created My Diamonds & Pearls Glam Wall

Step 1:  Start with a wall that has been previously painted with latex paint.  My wall was painted with a matte finish so other than making sure it was clean and dry no other preparation was needed.

* If the wall has been recently painted allow 72 hours of time to pass in order for the wall to be fully cured before applying the FrogTape® Shape Tape™.

Step 2:  Decide on whether or not you will be using the Shape Tape™ in a unique design or as packaged.  I cut a few small pieces of the tape and played around with placement until I was happy with the results.  I chose an alternating ‘Pearl & Diamond’ pattern for my vertical design and a ‘Diamond’ pattern for the angled lines.

Step 3:  I measured my wall height and cut pieces of the FrogTape® Shape Tape™ allowing 2 extra inches for wiggle room.

Step 4:  I removed half of the liner backing slowly and applied to my wall in the pattern I desired.  I did the vertical rows first on each side of the mirror.

Step 5:  Once the first half of the tape is in place gently remove the second half of the liner and secure the strip to the wall with your fingers then use a firm plastic scraper to ensure a good adhesion.

Step 6:  Start painting!  I used a white latex paint for the pearls and a gold metallic paint for my diamonds.

Step 7:  Immediately after the painting is completed peel off the Shape Tape™.  It comes off very easily so no worries there.

Look at the ‘clean’ edges of my design!  Impressive I tell ‘ya.

Step 8:  Allow the first set of stripes to dry fully (at least 24 hours) before adding the angled ‘Diamond’ pattern.  Paint following the above directions.

This is a very brief tutorial but trust me, the process was extremely easy and the results were amazing.  For a full tutorial be sure to check out FrogTape how-to and follow FrogTape® on Twitter for more inspiration and lots of great paint-spiration.

So now that you know how easy it is and that you won’t have a mess on your hands what wall{s} in your house is screaming for some FrogTape® Shape Tape™” love?

  5. Wow, that looks amazing, Mary Beth! Yep, your house with the paneling could have been mine when we were first married, and my parents’ house, oh, and my inlaws’ house, too! It was a very popular trend back then. I kind of like your painted paneled wall — now that is a trend, too!
