Spring Decorating with Antiques

decorating-with-antiques I started to do some spring decorating and while I know I’m late to the party I’m glad that I at least got started.  So far I’ve done a dresser in my living room that I consider my mantel {I don’t have a mantel so this is as close I can get for now} and I decorated one corner in my living room.

pink-tulips-spring-decorating 2 I started with an antique soda pop crate {I have books stored in it to hold it down and to double up on its use}.  I covered the crate with a burlap coffee sack and then topped it off with an urn filled with artificial tulips.  Once I get some real flowers blooming in the yard I’ll swap these out but for now I have some color in the room.

tulips-in-urn #tulips #urn *Here’s a tip regarding the artificial tulips ~ I’ve had this bunch for years and always just plopped them in a container without bending the stems but then I realized that when looking at fresh tulip bouquets the stems gently swag downward so I added a slight bend to my tulip stems.  Making this one little change in how I displayed them made a huge difference.  p.s. I have the palms in there because I put these same palms somewhere in my house every Easter season.  When my father was still alive every Palm Sunday he would bring me palms from church and these were the last ones he gave me.

Spring-corner-antique-mirror-decorating 2 I had all of the little touches above in place but my space was still needing something.  I bought this antique mirror at the Thrift Store for $14.99 and it was sitting in my craft room waiting to be hung.  It’s extremely heavy so I was putting off hanging it and then I had the thought to put it behind this display and I am so glad that I did ~ It anchored everything perfectly.

Thanks so much for stopping by and looking at my little spring corner.

  1. I think that’s a lovely display! Love the lil bend to the tulips and makes them look real! I hear ya on the dried palms…I have many scattered through my house…each with a memory. I’ve yet to burn any…as that’s the acceptable way to dispose of old palms.
    Happy Spring to you!

    • Thank you so much, Roxanne. My Dad used to burn them for me but once he passed I just couldn’t part with the last palms. You have a happy spring as well and thanks so much for stopping by!

      • I absolutely LOVE the palms. My father passed away this past August so this will be our 1st Easter without him. I have dried flowers in my home from his service and the little side you included about the palms from your dad touched a little spot in my heart. Thank you for sharing – LOVE your blog. Can’t wait to see these two great men again one day!!!!

        • I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad, Lori, and I agree about seeing our Dads again one day ~ it will be such a joy. Sending warm thoughts your way this Easter season and thank you so very much for taking the time to stop by and leave me a comment ~ that means a lot to me. hugs, mb

  4. Your tulip arrangement is beautiful and the palm leaves are a sweet tribute to your father. Good fathers are a treasure forever and I had a special one too. He is the reason I love to read and write today as he was a great example. That mirror is beautiful!
