10 Ways To Get Organized {Now} for Next Christmas

10 Easy Ways to Get Organized Now for Next Christmas via Cupcakes and Crinoline

I can’t believe that Christmas Day has passed by already but that just means it’s time to start getting organized for next Christmas.  I started practicing some of these tips in the last few years and they have helped me save time and enjoy my holidays with a little less stress!

1.  When wrapping gifts I make a list of what I need for next year ~ wrapping paper, bags {sizes ~ extra large, large, medium, small}, tissue paper {white or colored}, gift card holders, gift tags, ribbon and bows.  I also write down if I have TOO much of any one specific thing so that I don’t stock up on this.  I keep a copy of this list on my iPhone and also place a written copy paperclipped to my October calendar of the following year.  That way, if I see something on sale this year I can pick it up and cross it off my list but if I don’t, I have plenty of time next year to stock up on what I need hopefully making use of coupons.

2.  I place all Christmas Cards received in a nice  bundle and update my Christmas Card list for next year changing addresses if necessary {save your envelopes as you get your cards and verify return addresses before discarding}.  I also make note of whether or not I need to buy {or make} more Christmas Cards for next year.  Now is a great time to pick up cards at 50% {or more} off.

3.  Label Christmas decor bins so you know exactly what is in each bin.  You can use labels for this or just take inventory and tape a paper list to the outside of your bins.

4.  When taking down your Christmas lights check to make sure they are still working.  If any have burnt out bulbs replace them now or discard them and make a note on your Christmas Inventory list of any replacement light strings/color/how many strings you will need for next year.

5.  Reuse plastic store bags to hold a single string of lights or use newspaper to wrap lights ~ this will help to keep them from becoming entangled and will be a real time saver when you begin your decorating next Christmas.

6.  Write down any recipes this year that you tried and liked {including the source of the recipe so you don’t waste time looking for the recipe next year} or print out the recipes {if they were found online} and keep them in a binder of Holiday Recipes including a master list of what you’ll need to have on hand to make these recipes ~ think well-stocked Holiday Pantry!

7.  Start keeping track of any gift ideas you have for those on your gift list and buy them throughout the year saving money and time.  Make a note of any gifts you do buy and keep them all in one place so you don’t forget about them or are scrambling to find them when the time comes.  My mother did this and come Christmas she was always ready.

8.  Check table linens for stains and treat {if necessary} and launder before storing.

9.  Write down any special memories from this year and store this away with your decor.  It will be fun to look back at your Holiday fun!

10.  Start a savings account or put extra money to the side to use for enjoying Christmas Movies, plays, special events or dinners with family and friends without having to worry about using money from your Christmas Gift Budget.

  7. Here is a tip that works for us. Buy Christmas cards for next year on clearance now, but pack them with your Thanksgiving decorations. When you get that box out, you have your cards ready to go, and hopefully, get them written out early. While you are at it, update your address labels, and print out a set to go in the box too. Best hint of all, assign this job to your husband. Works for me.
