The Gift That’s Too Dreadful to Use

Did you ever get a gift that was just to dreadful….too awful….too YUCK to use?  We did.  Last year we went to a breakfast with friends before Christmas and we had a white elephant exchange…you know…the gift exchange where you bring something from your house you don’t need {or want} and gift it to someone else randomly.  Well, my youngest son got a crushed velvet Santa hat with matching boxers….yep…that was a fun one to explain to him!  I hated it and had it in a bag to give to the local thrift store when I had a total aha moment and decided to keep it for the fabric.  I had no idea what I was doing to do with it but it was RED CRUSHED VELVET ~ I mean, I couldn’t get rid of it!

The Fancy Schmancy 5-Minute Velvet Trees

So now, I have Red Crushed Velvet and I have cone trees….awesome, versatile Make It:Fun™ cone trees….and then it hit me….wrap the cone trees in the Red Velvet…so I gave it a  try and they look absolutely gorgeous!  I made all three cone trees in under 15 minutes and for a little added bling I wrapped the middle tree in a Design it:® LED  Light Strand.

Step 4 ~ Wrap fabric in a diagonal fashion down your cone gluing at the end and beginning of each strip and ending by wrapping the strip straight across the bottom.  I tucked my ends under my cone and glued to the bottom.

I added the LED Lights to one of my trees to give them a little extra glow!
