Beach Inspired Desserts ~ Fun in the Sun

I love summer and I especially love the ocean.  The family and I haven’t had a vacation in over 10 years so I’m getting a bit {TREMENDOUSLY} antsy longing for the sound of the waves, the smell of the water and the feel of sand beneath my feet.  Until then, I’ll just dream with some Beach-Inspired Desserts.

You don’t need to worry about the grit of sand in your teeth ~ the secret to the sandy-look is light brown sugar.

I removed the handle from a kid’s beach pail and replaced it with some sisal and used some seashells and a starfish to decorate the areas that were not touching the food. I added some edible flowers to decorate the top of the Beach Sand Dessert and the cupcakes {I’ll be posting the recipe for the Pina Colada cupcakes in a few days so stay tuned}.

This can be served immediately or chilled for one hour before serving.

  • 24 golden Oreos {2/3 of a package} crushed
  • 2 {3.4} ounce packages of vanilla instant pudding
  • 2 cups milk
  • 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
  • 8 ounces of Cool Whip, thawed
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Light brown sugar for garnish

  1. Mix powdered sugar, cream cheese and vanilla. Once well mixed and smooth, gently fold in the Cool Whip.
  2. Whisk together milk and pudding and fold into Cool Whip mixture.
  3. Line beach pail with plastic wrap and add 1/2 of the crushed Oreos to the bottom.
  4. Add pudding mixture and then add the remaining half of the Oreos to the top.
  5. Garnish with light brown sugar.

Absolutely adorable!!! I had made a sand pail cake about ten years ago for my daughter’s beach party and she loved it (not to mention how easy it was to make too!). Love the beautiful photos you took too! (sharing 7 pinning like crazy). 😉
