Combine fitness, exercise and healthy living with socializing and you have a formula for success.

The other day I shared with you two of my favorite apps for keeping me on track with my healthy lifestyle changes {if you haven’t checked the post out, you can see it here}.  To keep you going in the right direction here are some tips.

First, don’t feel overwhelmed or intimidated.  You are not alone.  So many people are making the choice to live healthier.  If you’re on Facebook you can create or join a group of people who have similar goals.  You can share tips, encourage each other and talk about your successes and struggles.  I belong to a group fondly referred to as, The Shredders.  We’re a group of about 40 who have just started the 30 Day Shred with Jillian Michaels.  The group is still open and if you are interested in joining, check out this link from Jen at Four Marrs & One Venus  and if you want a chuckle, watch her video!

If you’re more into IRL {in real life} interactions, find a group in your neighborhood of other gals {or guys} who may be interested in meeting  on a regular schedule for a stroller stroll, a time-alone-with-friends walk, a jog or run.  You can also take turns hosting an early morning or midday hangout; pop in the DVD of choice and have some fun working out together.  We like to take family walks at night before bedtime just to wind down and spend some time together.  These walks are priceless!

If  going to a gym or the YMCA is out of the question due to funds or location, lots of communities host exercise groups at the municipal building or fire hall {mine hosts a 3 time a week Zumba class} and some churches also have groups that meet a few times a week for workouts.

A recent study published in the journal Sports and Exercise Psychology Review has shown that people who have support systems in place are the most successful with both diet and exercise programs.

If you opt to do workouts via DVD, my top two picks are Slim in 6 with Debbie Siebers and 30 Day Shred with Jillian Michaels.  Both are available on Amazon but I have seen the 30 Day Shred at Target, among other stores, recently.  The Slim in 6 set listed in the Amazon Widget below is the entire set but individual videos are available and the first video is a great place to start to see if you like this workout or not.

p.s. If you want a chocolate chip cookie, you can still have one ~ especially if it’s a guilt-free cookie!

Here’s to a New Year full of hope, possibilities, blessings and success!

    • I’m so glad I ‘found’ your group shout out….love the accountability factor of The Shredders. When I check on the page and see others have or are doing it that really helps to motivate me to stick with it! ~ mb

  2. Everyone is talking about this spreading malarkey ;) I really must try it. I’ve just bought myself a Davina DVD. She’s very good!

    • I’ve never heard of Davina ~ I will have to check her out. I like to change it up that’s why I recommended both DVD’s (Slim in 6 and 30 Day Shred) ~ I get bored way too easily.

      Have a great day!

  3. Hey MB! Good for you. Thanks for the food for thought LOL. I am a solo exerciser but maybe that’s why I tend to give up. Appreciate the inspiration! xo

    • I’m a solo exerciser as well, usually, but I did join the facebook group and that has been helping me ~ when I read that everyone else is exercising I get off my butt and get movin’!
