Guess Who’s in the Hometalk Bloglight?

I am so excited to share Hometalk with you today.  Have you ever heard of Hometalk?  It’s a wonderful online community where members can post their home and gardening tips and photos and also get answers and advice from other knowledgeable Hometalk community members.  It’s an awesome source of inspiration for all things home.

Once a week Hometalk picks a blogger to be in the Hometalk’s Blogtalk Bloglight {now that’s a mouthful} and this week, I’m their pick!  {Do you hear me screaming with joy???}

Miriam, the so very helpful and amazing Director of Community Development for Hometalk, sent me some questions to answer so here you go:

How did you first get into blogging?

In April of 2007 I left a job where I worked about 70 hours a week. I had lost touch with everything but when I started working from home I discovered blogs. I was smitten! After over a year of following along I decided that I would give myself a birthday present and on October 1, 2008, published my first post. {I had no idea what I was doing!}

Is blogging something you do on the side, or is it a full-time job for you?

For the moment, it is something I do on the side since I still work from home and homeschool my two younger sons but I would love to do it full time ~ that’s my dream.

What do your friends and family think about your blog? Do they read all of your updates?

I hadn’t, until very recently, really told anyone outside of my husband, boys and best friend about my blog. My husband subscribes to my updates and reads them when he can and is always my biggest fan.  My kids think it’s pretty cool that I blog and always ask before touching anything {especially food} if I need to take pictures first {those poor hungry kids}.

Do you stick to a strict posting schedule?

My intent is to stick to a schedule but that never seems to happen. I work ‘on call’ so never know when or if I’m going to have work.  I post when I have a break from work or the kids and squeeze in time here and there. I have so many pictures that I’ve never written posts for and some I’ve even forgotten the purpose of the picture or exactly what I did.  I’m not the most organized blogger out there.

What advice could you give to other bloggers that you wish you had known before you started blogging?

My best advice would be to just do it. Don’t be afraid. You’ll make mistakes along the way but don’t get discouraged. If you really want to blog just start somewhere, anywhere, and keep going. Don’t be hard on yourself. When you look at a picture you’ve taken or a post you’ve written and find the negative also find the positive and keep on moving forward.

A big heartfelt thank you to Hometalk and Miriam for letting me share a little about myself and featuring me in the Bloglight this week.

    Too funny that your kids ask before they touch food! My girls friend was over and she tried touching one of my pom pom flowers and I screamed, “Don’t Touch”!!

    The poor girl was shocked but hey, I had it all set up for a picture!

      My youngest was a little guy when I started blogging and he learned early, no touch, and I totally agree…if something is set up for a picture screaming is not only allowed but mandatory!

      Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting.

    Hey Mary Beth! I hadn’t realized you had an on call job… that is so my life so I can totally relate! As for the ‘no blogging schedule… yep, that too! haha!

    Nice feature, it was fun to read more about you!

      Hey, Donna! I never can plan anything because I never know if I’ll be working or not but I much prefer that to the day job I used to have and office hours. So glad I’m not the only one without a blogging schedule….my whole life is sort of hit or miss!

      Thanks for you sweet comment ~ Mary Beth
