Weekday Family Dinners….those three words are music to my ears.

When I was very young my father worked shifts and if I was in school when he left for work, there were days at a time when I didn’t see him or spend time with him.  I hated those days.  When I was about 10 he got a promotion and worked all daylight hours which meant he was home for dinner almost every night ~ I loved that.  Even though by then I was the only one of my siblings still at home those family dinners with my mom and dad were wonderful.

Fast forward to me being a mom, a single mom for quite a while, who worked three jobs.  Many, many days I left for my office job before the kids were up and got home either after they were already in bed or just about to go to bed.  Family dinners together on weeknights were few and far between then and I daily felt the loss of that time with my kids….my family.  A few years ago I quit that office job and the financial loss has been significant, but now, I am home and with my kids for family dinners almost every night and that to me is priceless.

We rarely go out to dinner, especially to restaurants with any ‘real’ atmosphere but we were so fortunate to be able to go to Carrabba’s a few weeks ago.  We were all so excited.  We had never been there but we went online to look at the menu and ‘get ready’ for our big family dinner night out.  We waited for a night when my oldest son would be available for dinner so it would be a real treat for us all to be together.  The night came and we were ready for it.  The closest Carrabba’s is about an hour from our house but I love to drive and we made it an adventure.

Once we got to Carrabba’s we all commented on the ‘feel’ of the restaurant.  It was open and inviting yet private at the same time.  We were seated and introduced to our waitress who proved to be one of the best waitresses I had ever had {ever!}.  I told her it was our first time eating at Carrabba’s and she answered any {and ALL} questions we had about the meals.  My younger boys both opted for the Pizza.  My husband, oldest son and I all chose the Sirloin Marsala & Chicken Bryan Ravioli.

The meal started with olive oil and bread {this was a first for my younger boys…..they made sure nobody double-dipped!}.

The waitress suggested a Shirley Temple for my youngest son….he felt so special.

When our meals arrived and we tasted them, we all said how fresh and tasty everything was.

We even split a dessert.  The evening was a huge success and we have another memory to recall for family dinner time.

We ate everything ~ just one small box of leftovers to take home!

With the holidays quickly approaching we are making sure {and sometimes that’s easier to say than do} that we will keep family dinner time a priority because in the big scheme of life, moments like this are what it’s all about.

Dinner with my family is one of the most important parts of our day. Whether you are dinning in or ordering online to-go, Carrabba’s helps bring your family together during the week.

Tell me why you think family dinner is a priority and one of my readers will win a $25 gift card to enjoy at Carrabba’s!
