Chair Redo Inspiration

by mb on February 26, 2009

I can hardly wait for warmer weather.  I long to fling open the garage doors and start a spray painting and staining frenzy in my driveway!  I want to redo my dining room chairs along with a few other chairs in my house, and was looking for some inspiration and ideas to start the planning process.  Below are a few of my favorites.

While I will probably safely choose the extremely boring process of re-staining the wood and updating the cushions, I want to be prepared in case a chair that is not part of my set flings itself at me unexpectedly {which actually did happen to me once during a snowstorm-a pickup truck carrying unsecured oak chairs lost its cargo and a chair flew into my beloved sports car hitting the front bumper and then making its way under my wheels…yes, fun certainly ensued that day!}.

I love the deep turquoise and the lively chair cushion pattern….I really like this combination!

I love wicker.  What fun to find some inexpensive chairs at a yard/garage sale this summer or save some from the trash and paint as above.  {If you click on the picture it will take you right to the directions and details for doing so!}

If you want to redo your chairs maintaining a more traditional look, Martha Stewart has all of the details in this excellent tutorial Antiquing a Chair.  I don’t have a picture, but Martha Stewart also had a tutorial on recovering a chair.

Stephanie has a wonderful blog  just packed with great tips and ideas.  The chairs above are so pretty and the “skirt” is a unique twist.  Visit Angelic Accents for the how-tos.

If you find a chair that’s too far gone to redo and use as a chair, why not think outside of the box and use it for storage.  The complete instructions are available in video form at BHG.

You can’t really tell from the picture but the chair seat is now a shelf…it is a very functional chair redo.

Well, I hope you enjoyed my chair inspiration.  When I get mine redone I will be sure to post pictures.

I am linking this over at Julia’s Hooked on Houses for the weekly blog carnival.  Be sure to click on over their for wonderful ideas, inspiration and great links!

hugs, mb

LOVE LOVE LOVE the turquoise chair!

It’s already warm here (in Texas, LOL), so I’ve already been doing some painting. It’s so nice to be able to be outside again.

Hi there~ Love all of your chair re-do’s. I “re do” everything around here. And I think we are all getting the paint itch! Just last weekend I took armfuls of things to the basement for a quick spray paint. Cream is needed in this house full of black and dark rustic colors. I am ready for Spring!

You know, gardening can be a lot of fun too :) Don’t forget to support us growers in the spring……you can even buy your plants at home depot while you are getting your paints and things!

Love this post! Thanks so much for featuring my chair makeover! It was really so simple to do. Hardest part was picking my fabrics!

I’d love to try to make the BHG chair shelf ~ thanks for posting that video!

You have a beautiful blog I will follow & visit often.

What great chair inspiration! There’s something about colorful chairs like that turquoise one or the wicker ones on the porch that make me smile. I have orange-painted chairs in the playroom that I love. Great post! :-)
