Years ago when my oldest son was a little guy we made a whole tree full of Christmas ornaments. They have withstood the test of time and still adorn a tree in our home. The two I will be talking about today are the easiest to make and can probably be made with items you have on hand. The heart shaped popcorn ornament {it is a heart…over the years, the ornament has curled somewhat-okay a lot} was a fun ornament to make.
Items needed: Popcorn without butter-preferably air popped, heavy cardboard, school glue, spray paint if desired {this can also be left natural}, and ribbon or a hook. Trace or free hand draw a simple, larger shape on to your cardboard. Stars, hearts, circles, snowmen, all of these shapes work well. Punch a hole in the top of the ornament. Use some school glue to glue the popped popcorn onto the cardboard. When dry either add ribbon or a hook and you are done. You can also spray paint the popcorn ornament, allow it dry and then add your hanger. Before adding the popcorn I had my son write his name and the year on the back.
The sled ornament is made from popsicle sticks, glue, markers/paint/crayons, and ribbon. Line up six popsicle sticks side by side, glue two sticks {one up and one down} on top of the six sticks. This is what holds the sled together. Once dry, have your child paint or color the sled. When completely decorated add a ribbon.
Have a wonderful day!

This is really such a good idea! I used to love making ornaments as a kid, and now that we’re all grown, it’s sad to see that my aunt has set aside our homemade things to make a more “stylish” tree. I can’t wait for a tree full of paper crafts and hand painted ornaments made out of popcorn and Popsicle sticks.
